چکیده
ABSTRACT We investigate the focal plane wavefront sensing technique, known as Phase Diversity, at scientific of a segmented mirror telescope with an adaptive optics (AO) system. specifically consider optical system imaging point source in context (i) artificial within structure and (ii) from AO-corrected images bright star. From our simulations, we reliably disentangle phasing errors non-common path aberrations (NCPA) for both theoretical on-sky, where have simulated Keck/NIRC2 This quantification on-sky is appealing, it sensitive to cumulative perturbations entire train; disentanglement NCPA therefore critical, any potential correction primary estimate must contain minimal contributions. Our estimates require 1-min sequence short-exposure, images; by exploiting slight modification AO-loop, find that 75 defocused produce reliable estimates. demonstrate deformable results error reduction up 67 per cent 65 NCPA, respectively. If segment on Keck are order ∼130 nm RMS, show can improve H-band Strehl ratio 10 using algorithm. conclude technique works well alone images, suggesting promising method AO-system.

Effect of segmented telescope phasing errors on adaptive optics performance
The largest existing optical telescopes and the next generation of extremely large telescopes are all segmented telescopes. The primary mirror segments must be phased in order to attain the diffraction limit of the telescope. In this paper, we investigate the effect of phasing errors on image quality delivered by the adaptive optics systems at the W. M. Keck Observatory using both simulations a...
متن کاملAccommodation with higher-order monochromatic aberrations corrected with adaptive optics.
Higher-order monochromatic aberrations in the human eye cause a difference in the appearance of stimuli at distances nearer and farther from best focus that could serve as a signed error signal for accommodation. We explored whether higher-order monochromatic aberrations affect the accommodative response to 0.5 D step changes in vergence in experiments in which these aberrations were either pre...
متن کامل3D deconvolution of adaptive-optics corrected retinal images
We report on a deconvolution method developed in a Bayesian framework for adaptive-optics corrected images of the human retina. The method takes into account the three-dimensional nature of the imaging process; it incorporates a positivity constraint and a regularization metric in order to avoid uncontrolled noise amplification. This regularization metric is designed to simultaneously smooth no...

متن کاملActive control of adaptive optics system in a large segmented mirror telescope
For a large Adaptive Optics (AO) system such as a large Segmented Mirror Telescope (SMT), it is often difficult, although not impossible, to directly apply common Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) controller design methods due to the computational burden imposed by the large dimension of the system model. In this paper, a practical controller design method is proposed which significantly reduces ...
